Which psychotherapy is most effective for addiction?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT is a one-on-one therapy during which you meet privately with a therapist over a period of time. It's often considered the most effective therapy for drug and alcohol use disorders.

contingencies are not unethical or counterproductive (e.g., reducing methadone

Individualized Programming

Patients attending outpatient programs should have some appropriate
support systems in place, adequate living arrangements, transportation to the
services, and considerable motivation to attend consistently and benefit from

Where can I find more information and support?

SAMHSA has created a Family Brochure for family members of people living with substance use disorders. It answers questions about substance use disorders, their symptoms, different types of treatment, and recovery. The brochure also addresses concerns of children of parents living with substance use disorders. Along with the directory, these resources can help you learn more about substance use treatment programs. My family member just competed her 28 day stay she had a great experience the staff is wonderful and treated her with respect and went above and beyond to help her.
